“Hey, can you check out the tires on my car? I curbed one and want to make sure it’s okay.”

“Yeah, it looks fine, however, you should probably replace the tires soon.”

“Why?”

“DOT says they were manufactured on the 30th week of 2006. You’re still riding on the original tires.”

She’s not happy about how much this’ll cost.

10 years out of a set of tires is pretty respectable... She must not drive much if she still has tread on those.

She bought it from our step-grandmother in August. an ‘07 Mazda6 hatch with about 67k kilometres on it. It’s pretty damn nice.

My bike is riding on tires over 20 years old.

How much will it cost? What is she driving?

Ballparking $500 for the four tires plus installation if she gets them on sale from the greatest store in the universe, Crappy Tire. It’s an ‘07 (I think) Mazda6 hatch with about 67k kilometres on it.

Either way, she’s getting new winters for it, but come spring, she’s thinking about new all seasons.

Wow, minty. Yeah, those tires are probably fine for a while now, depending on what spec they were made to. In the US, I wouldn’t be afraid to run a tire made in about 2001 or later today, provided they weren’t subjected to extreme temperature swings and left in the sun all that time.

That’s not too bad. Although if she went for really meh no name brand tires you could probably go cheaper.

$500 for 4 tires. My God, I’d give up sex for a month if I could find tires at that price!

I should check the date code on mine...there’s no cracking or sidewall damage, so they’re probably safe. The treads are pretty worn though so it’s time to replace them, but they may just be the original factory all-season tires...*whistles innocently*

And that’s Canadian dollars. That’s like $3 US. :)
